Congratulations to Dr Yuanwei Liu, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor from EECS, who has been named on the annual Highly Cited Researchers 2021 list from Clarivate.
Every year Clarivate identifies the world’s most influential researchers, a select group who have demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last year.
The annual list identifies some 6,600 researchers from across the globe who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. The Highly Cited Researchers’ names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in the Web of Science citation index, and the list identifies the research institutions and countries where they are based.
This year Dr Liu has been recognised as a Highly Cited Researcher thanks to his work in Computer Science. Dr Liu’s research group focuses on next generation multiple access, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces, drone communications, Internet of Things (IoT), integrated sensing and communications, and machine learning in 5G/6G networks. Currently, Dr Liu seeks to unlock the potential use of simultaneous transmitting and reflecting surfaces (STARs), which will allow the intelligent surfaces to achieve 360 degree full space coverage. The name of STARs is proposed by Yuanwei’s group, who hope to make those STARs shine in the future for 6G Sky, providing low cost, energy efficient and coverage extended communications in the future wireless networks,
In addition to this work at QMUL, Dr Liu is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and currently serves as Senior Editor of the IEEE Communications Letters, and Editor of both the IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications and Transactions on Communications. In 2020 he was the recipient of the 2020 IEEE ComSoc Outstanding Young Researcher Award for the Europe, Middle East and Afria Region, and received the 2020 Early Achievement Award of the IEEE ComSoc Signal Processing and Computing for Communications (SPCC) Technical Committee. He also received the 2021 Early Achievement Award from the Communication Theory Technical Committee (CTTC).
Dr Liu said: "I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the hard work of my research group members, especially during the current difficult times over the last a couple of years. I could not achieve this without their support. I would like to thank all my colleagues and collaborators. I would also like to thank QMUL for providing continuous support for my research."
