Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine - Barts and The London


We provide several services which are available to other departments in QMUL and external users.

The Wolfson Institute of Preventive Medicine offers a statistical consultancy service for research staff and PhD students who require statistical support.

The Polypill Prevention Programme is a preventive medicine service to reduce the risk of first heart attacks and strokes. The service implements the Polypill approach in which a combination of commonly prescribed medications, that reduce several cardiovascular risk factors are administered together to individuals above a specified age without clinical cardiovascular disease and without selecting them on the basis of risk factors such as cholesterol or blood pressure.

The Barts Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) is a UKCRC registered clinical trials unit providing support and oversight for trials in a number of areas across the medical school.  It includes the Cancer Prevention Trials Unit which runs trials in therapeutic cancer prevention and cancer screening for the CCP and more widely.

We are a leader in the field of antenatal screening for Down’s syndrome.
