Unlike cervical screening where the benefits of screening to prevent cervical cancer are well-established, the benefits of anal screening to prevent anal cancer are unknown.
The STAC (Screening Tools for Anal Cancer) Study is an exploratory study aimed at comparing the diagnostic performance of cytology and molecular markers to predict high-grade anal pre-cancers or cancer in HIV-positive MSM (men who have sex with men).
Results from this exploratory study will inform on the design of a large screening trial to evaluate the efficacy of anal screening to detect high-grade pre-cancers or greater in HIV-positive MSM.
