The Wolfson Institute has always promoted education and training as essential to running a successful screening service. We offer a variety of education services about antenatal screening for Down's syndrome, ranging from three-day intensive courses to one-hour seminars. . Each year we deliver education and training to over 200 health professionals through both onsite and offsite training sessions.
The education programme is available to all those involved in screening for Down's syndrome: midwives, counsellors, laboratory staff, obstetricians, and geneticists and can be tailored to suit individual requirements. Please click on the links for an overview of the education services that the Wolfson Institute offer. If you would like to discuss any aspects further, please contact us.
These theoretical and practical courses are designed to provide a comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of screening for Down's syndrome, and are suited to clinic and community midwives and counsellors involved in screening programmes.
To ensure that the courses have a relaxed and informal feel we limit group size to about twenty participants. This enables the courses to be interactive with participants freely able to ask questions and participate in discussion.
To reflect the changing needs of health professionals for education and information we have introduced a flexible, on-the-road service.
This course focuses on DNA screening, in particular the use of reflex DNA screening. It includes topics such as: methods of DNA screening, the use of Reflex DNA screening in an NHS setting, performing DNA screening in a UK based laboratory and more.
