Wolfson laboratory to process over 1 million Covid-19 tests per year
The Wolfson’s Covid-19 testing laboratory, which has been operational since December, has reached the milestone of 50,000 samples processed. With 28 members of staff, and operating from 0800-2300 seven days a week, the laboratory now has a throughput of 2000 tests per day.
Laboratory Operations Manager Jack (Yat Hong) Leung says he is eager to contribute to the QM effort to fight the pandemic, and provided us with some team images from inside the laboratory. The laboratory led by Dr Belinda Nedjai, PI of this project, was funded by a £3.6 million grant, and Queen Mary is working along with UCL, King’s, and Imperial, as part of the Med-City Testing Alliance.
Med-City is part-funded by the Mayor of London. Other partners supporting the Alliance’s efforts include: the Greater London Authority, NHS, Public Health England, the multi-agency Regional Strategic Testing Group, and the Department for Health and Social Care.
