Health and Lifestyle Research Unit to provide Newham stop smoking service
The Wolfson's Health and Lifestyle Research Unit has been commissioned by the London Borough of Newham to be the provider of their stop smoking service.
Newham has been without a specialist service for five years, and has around 50,000 adult smokers, equating to 18.2% of people aged 18 and over, compared with the average of 13.9% in London, and 14.1% in England. The Research Unit, based in Stepney Green, is already providing a stop smoking service to Tower Hamlets. Director, Professor Peter Hajek hopes that the Newham service will also contribute to the unit’s scientific research, which includes work on smoking cessation, new treatments, and enhancing understanding of addictive behaviours and behaviour change.
