Dementia
The aims of the PNU dementia work are:
- To improve understanding of dementia risk and causation
- To identify those at highest risk of developing dementia before symptoms begin
- To develop interventions to prevent dementia and promote lifelong brain health
Our ongoing projects include:
- Epidemiological work in diverse and unique populations (including East London and Cuba) to improve understanding of dementia risk factors
- Genetic epidemiology and Mendelian randomisation studies to study the causality of risk factors and quantify genetic dementia risk
- Online brain health screening, including ‘stress tests’ for the brain to detect early cognitive dysfunction before symptoms begin
