Professor Steffen Petersen awarded 2025 SCMR Gold Medal for excellence in cardiovascular medicine

Steffen Petersen, Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at Queen Mary University of London, has been honoured with the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR) Gold Medal Award. This prestigious recognition celebrates his outstanding contributions to the field of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR). Professor Petersen received the award on January 31, 2025, at the SCMR annual conference held in Washington, DC.

The SCMR Gold Medal is the highest award given to individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary service to the advancement of CMR and to the Society. Professor Petersen joins a distinguished list of global leaders in cardiovascular medicine who have received this honour.

Currently a Professor at the William Harvey Research Institute at Queen Mary University of London, Professor Petersen is also a Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre within Barts Health NHS Trust. In addition, he serves as the Interim Director for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) Data Science Centre and is the Immediate Past-President of the European Society of Cardiology’s (ESC) European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI). With over 25 years of experience in CMR he contributes significantly to one of the largest clinical CMR services worldwide at the Barts Heart Centre.

Upon receiving the award, Professor Petersen expressed his gratitude: "I am delighted to have received this prestigious SCMR Gold Medal for my contributions in the field of cardiovascular magnetic resonance in research, education, policy, and advocacy."
