The Barts Cardiovascular Clinical Trials Unit (CVCTU) is a branch of the Barts Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) - a UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered unit. The CVCTU is based within the William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI) in Charterhouse Square, London, and is part of Queen Mary University London. We are currently funded by The Barts Charity.
To support cardiovascular research by delivering excellence in the design, conduct, and dissemination of clinical trials with the aim of improving patient care.
The Barts CVCTU currently supports clinical studies focused in the broad research area of cardiovascular research. Our current portfolio provides services and support to clinical trials conducted within the Barts Heart Centre, Barts Health NHS Trust, and Queen Mary University of London. The unit currently provides trial expertise, and support and oversight to local investigators; however, we also welcome investigators outside of our affiliated organisations. The CVCTU consists of a dedicated core team to manage the day-to day running of clinical trials, with CVCTU trial portfolio adoption coordinated by the Scientific and Resource Committees, and a Steering Committee to oversee resources, development and strategic direction.
