Following on from the success in achieving the Catering Mark Bronze Standard, Catering & Hospitality QM  have secured a 5* rating in the National Food Hygiene Rating Scheme in The Curve, Mucci’s, Nucleus and the SCR Café which reflects that the outlets operate with a ‘Very Good’ level of hygiene.

The scheme, which operates in England, Wales and Northern Ireland helps consumers choose where to eat out or shop by giving them information about the hygiene standards in restaurants, cafes, takeaways, hotels and food shops. Outlets are graded from 0 to 5 stars and the results are published online on the Food Standards Agency website.

The ratings are awarded by a food safety officer who inspects each organisation to assess how well they are meeting the law by looking at the following criteria:

  • how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
  • the condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities
  • how the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe

At the end of the inspection, the business is given one of the six ratings (0 – 5) which can be displayed in the outlet/restaurant.
