The London advantage

London is an exciting place in which to be a student. The cultural, political and business centre of the UK, London attracts an eclectic bunch of people, from all walks of life, who want to do things differently. Home to entrepreneurs and inventors, activists and artists, London is a place where discoveries are made, new technologies are tested and change happens.

I think there’s no place better to study than in London because you have such a range of opportunities here. Making sure that I was near lots of legal firms where I could find work experience was really important to me

Find out what students say about studying in London.

I grew up on the Isle of Wight, and went to school there. Going from a small, tiny villaStudent profile picturege to suddenly the biggest city in the UK was a massive change, but I thoroughly enjoyed the difference. I’m an oboist so my main hobby is music. Being able to go to concerts at the Barbican or the Royal Festival Hall for £5 as a student was something I'd never been able to do before. There are so many different things to do and places to go, which I think, for me, is one of the best things about being in the city

Developing your career in the capital

Canary Wharf

Queen Mary students can take advantage of our close proximity to the financial hubs of Canary Wharf and the City, the creative and technology-driven businesses of east London, and central London itself. We actively work with companies and organisations across the capital to create opportunities for our students to network, obtain work experience and develop an insight into different industries.

Employers and training organisations that have visited our campus include:

The BBC, Burberry, Cancer Research, Deloitte, eBay, HM Treasury, IBM, Morgan Stanley, the NHS, Rolls Royce, Siemens, Transport for London and the Wellcome Trust

Establishing roots in London will also give you an advantage when you graduate. While other graduates are making the move to the capital, you’ll already be a Londoner and in the right place for internships and interviews.
