Other UK Qualifications

Equivalencies for other common UK qualifications, not published on your chosen programme's respective Course Finder entry are detailed below.

International Baccalaureate

We welcome applications from students studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Unfortunately, we do not consider the International Baccalaureate Career-related Diploma.

For applicants studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme, we will typically ask for a minimum overall score and specify minimum scores in three subjects taken at Higher Level, aligned with the respective A-Level requirements for your chosen course of study, as published in the table below.

There are a handful of exceptions to the equivalences above and in some instances, scores may be specified in subjects taken at Standard Level. For further information, applicants are encouraged to refer to their chosen programme's Course Finder Entry, where explicit Entry Requirements for applicants studying the International Baccalaureate Diploma are published. 

 

European Baccalaureate

We welcome applications from students studying the European Baccalaureate qualification. We will typically ask for an overall percentage, aligned with the respective A-Level requirements for your chosen course of study, as published in the table below.

Where a programme requires specific A-Level subjects, we will typically include these in the offer. For an indication of these subjects, please refer to your chosen programme's Course Finder entry. 

Offers may also specify grades in particular subjects, according to the published equivalencies below.

Irish Leaving Certificate

We welcome applications from students studying the Irish Leaving Certificate.

Our exact requirements depend on the course you are applying for. Applicants will typically be required to pass a minimum of five subjects at Higher level with particular grades in subjects relevant to the course being applied for, aligned with the respective A-Level equivalencies for your chosen course of study, as published below.

Cambridge Pre-U Qualifications

We welcome applications from applicants studying Cambridge Pre-U qualifications. 

Whilst the Cambridge Pre-U Short Course qualification is not suitable for entry, the Cambridge Pre-U Principal Subject qualification will be considered for entry to most programmes at Queen Mary University of London. 

Where the Cambridge Pre-U Principal Subject qualification is considered for entry, offers of study will be made according to the respective A-Level Entry Requirements for your chosen course of study, in line with the A-Level grade equivalencies published below.

Cambridge Pre-U Principal Subject qualifications will also be considered in combination with other suitable Level 3 qualifications.

Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers

We recognise Scottish Higher qualifications, and as a minimum would require one advanced Higher in addition to four standard Highers. 

Specific Entry Requirements will vary according to the course applicants are applying for.

Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate

We recognise the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate as an appropriate Level 3 qualification for entry to the vast majority of our Undergraduate degree courses.*

The qualification will typically be viewed and treated in lieu of on GCE A-Level, with offers of study specifying an appropriate grade in the Skills Challenge, aligned to the respective A-Level Entry requirements. 

Specific A-Level subject requirements will still apply - an indication of these subjects can be found on your chosen programme's Course Finder entry listing under the A-Level requirements. 

*The School of Law will not include the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate in any offers of study, but may take the qualification into consideration at confirmation, in the event that you fall short of the conditions specified in your original offer of study.
