Favourite way to stay green on campus

You voted: Green Mary!Green Mary

QMUL Sustainability's initiative Green Mary was the clear winner here, with many of you listing Green Mary activities and events as your favourite ways to stay green and be more sustainable. Events such as Green Mary Week are a great opportunity to access free bike maintenance and police safety advice, talk to local organisations and charities, and learn more about how to get involved with sustainability initiatives. The Green Mary Student Group also provides a number of opportunities for students to actively shape QMUL’s sustainability, and develop their own practicable knowledge and understanding of sustainability issues.

How else can you be more green?

Smoothie bikes

The smoothie bikes are a popular feature of Green Mary’s events throughout the year, remaining a firm favourite among our students. Next time you see the bikes on campus, hop on and ride to bag yourself a free smoothie!

Recycling bins

The Green Mary recycling bins around campus are a quick and easy way to recycle your waste. The bin itself is made from cardboard and is 100 per cent recyclable when it reaches the end of its life. Information on what can be recycled in the bins is also clearly displayed for ease of use. You can also donate unwanted clothes, shoes, books, electrical items and more in the British Heart Foundation (BHF) donation banks that have been installed on campus. The items are picked up and delivered to local BHF charity shops where they are sold to raise money for lifesaving research. You can find the donation banks in the following locations:

  • Near the Lock Keepers Cottage
  • Between Maynard House and Varey House
  • Between Beaumont Court and Creed Court
