Favourite way to get involved with the university

It’s great to be able to give our fantastic student ambassadors a mention here! Being a student ambassador is a great opportunity to enrich your university experience, whether you’re representing Queen Mary to the public or helping out with open days and campaigns across the campus. We couldn’t do it without you – thank you! We will be looking for more student ambassadors to help out with our open days and events over the next year, so why not get involved and get paid the London Living Wage to do so?

What other options are available?

Student Council

One of the best ways to get involved and enact change within the Students’ Union at QMUL as a whole is to take part in the Student Council with the Union’s Student Representatives and Part-time Officers. At least four times a year, they meet to discuss and debate the things that matter to you. This can be anything from fees and cuts to environmental impact and the Union’s direction. Any student can attend meetings, submit an issue or motion to be discussed and take part in the debate, so if you feel that you have an issue that needs addressing, get involved.

Internships and work experience

Did you know that every now and then, internship placements within the university become available for QMUL students? What better way to get a feel for how the institution is run than from on the inside? Some recent internships have covered areas such as Marketing and Communications, as well as finance. There are also many work experience opportunities available at QMUL on a range of different projects. Keep an eye on the Careers & Enterprise pages for all the opportunities.

Providing feedback

You said that providing feedback is also great way of getting involved. Feedback is sought from students by a variety of means, such as informal staff–student discussions, focus groups, Student–Staff Liaison Committees (SSLCs) and Student Module Evaluation. Student surveys are also an important opportunity for you to tell us about your experience at Queen Mary, in order to help us make the changes you want to see. Information on how we listen and take action on student feedback is available on the 'Tell us, we listen' webpage.
