The application of pressure changes the mixing properties of molecules strongly. Not only are the stable compositions strongly altered, but the structural topologies are changed, and in some case immiscible species mix and miscible species demix. The properties of such mixtures at pressure form the basis the mineralogy of the outer solar system, high pressure phases offer potential new gas storage applications and provide fundamental insight into important interactions like hydrophobicity.
In my talk I will present an overview of studies of molecular mixtures at high pressure carried out using visual observation, neutron and x-ray diffraction.
