SPIDER, CMB POLARISATION AND GALACTIC MICROWAVE FOREGROUND EMISSION

23 January 2013

Time: 4:30pm
Venue: Maths 103
Series: The London Relativity and Cosmology Seminar
Speaker: Caroline Clark (Imperial)
Abstract: I will give a brief update on preparation for the SPIDER experiment, a suborbital polarimeter aimed at detecting B-mode polarisation of the CMB, in particular details of the map-making procedure. Galactic foregrounds are expected to dominate the potential B-mode signal over all targeted observing frequencies, so I will move on to present templates of the dominant Galactic foregrounds, synchrotron and thermal dust. These templates may prove useful for studies of Galactic magnetic field models and preparation for experiments. I will also confront the model with some available data.
