Numerical simulations of accretion discs have greatly benefited from the 'shearing box' formalism, where, instead of the whole disc, only a local (shear-) periodic patch of the disc is considered. This approach has recently been extended to include the presence of a warp in the disc, which allows for a local study of of warped astrophysical discs. Using this approach, it is found that warped discs are in fact hydrodynamically unstable. I will present numerical simulations of this instability and discuss its importance for astrophysical discs.
