I will review the evolution of Doppler techniques in the last 18 years of exoplanet discoveries. I will present how new spectroscopic data analysis methods allow achieving very high Doppler precision on low mass stars, enabling the detection of ~Earth mass objects within their habitable zones. Low mass planets (and also small sized ones photometrically inferred from Kepler data) seem to appear in systems with very high multiplicity and dynamically packed orbits. This complicates their detection on Doppler time-series. I will review recent announcements made on nearby multi-planet systems and discuss why up-to-date data analysis techniques beyond classic periodogram schemes are required to detect them robustly. To finish, I will present early results from our 'Cool tiny beats' survey (with HARPS) whose main goal is to detect sub-earth mass objects around the nearest M stars.
