Meet the team

Undergraduate Admissions

The Admissions Team which is part of the overall Student Office performs all the activities related to the recruitment and admission of undergraduate medical and dental students for Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. The department has a wealth of experience in the management, development and implementation of student recruitment and additionally is responsible for the organisation of events such as open days, school talks and post offer open days.

Here are the people dedicated to making your application and transition to the School of Medicine and Dentistry as smooth as possible. Our phone lines are open as per the schedule below so calls made outside of this time will not be answered:

Sam Coker, Student Recruitment and Admissions Manager

Sam has directly led the current Admissions Team since 2008. Along with his staff, he is responsible for the management and operation of the work of the Admissions and Recruitment office, including operational processes, provision of management information and statistical data on admissions. Sam welcomes and meets prospective applicants and their families, providing them with advice and guidance relating to general enquiries and also attends a range of admission and recruitment events throughout the year.

Amy Chandler-King, Deputy Student Recruitment and Admissions Manager 

Amy deals with everything related to the MBBS London 5 year programme including student recruitment at open days, assessment of applications, and running interviews. She is also responsible for the operational processes, provision of management information and statistical data for admissions at the School of Medicine and Dentistry

VJ Davidson, Events Administrator

VJ is the first point of contact for telephone calls and emails from enquirers. She organises and coordinates various events such as open days, the A100 medicine interviews and various different medical and dental events at schools throughout the year to intice the next cohort of students to apply.

Wendy Butler, Admissions Administrator 

Wendy manages recruitment to the A200 Dentistry programme including applications, interviews and open days.

Senior academic staff

Prof. Anthony Warrens, Dean for Education at the School of Medicine & Dentistry

Prof. Anthony Warrens is a practicing renal physician with a particular interest in kidney transplantation, he is also Director of the Institute for Health Sciences Education. He is responsible for all undergraduate and postgraduate education in the School, both clinical and non-clinical and is supported by a number of very able individuals with particular specialist knowledge in different areas relevant to managing the courses. Professor Warrens is also responsible for insuring that the School of Medicine & Dentistry is well integrated within Queen Mary University of London and benefits from being part of a multi-faculty university, and indeed for being part of the University of London.

Dr. Jason Berry, Head of Admissions

Alongside the senior tutors for admissions, Jason is responsible for the policy and implementation of the admissions programme. He liaises widely with respect to admissions within the main Queen Mary University of London faculties and with national bodies. In addition, he leads the widening participation and outreach programme and speaks at numerous school and careers events.

Maria Hayfron-Benjamin, Deputy Head of Admissions

Maria supports Jason with overseeing the admissions processes of the medical school. She has taken a special interest in the admissions policy, entry requirements and interviews. She will also be seen at university open days and events.
