Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry

Student support

Most of us encounter challenges at one time or another, whether they are academic, health-related, financial or personal. We understand that dealing with these issues at the same time as studying full-time can put you under stress and strain, so we’ve made sure that you can get expert, experienced personal and academic support at every stage of your studies from both the medical school in Malta or the wider university to help you get the most out of life as a Barts and The London Malta student and achieve your full potential.

The Student Support Office – Malta

We have a dedicated Student Support Office in Malta which will be overseen by the London Student Support Office to provide you with full pastoral support on site. The Malta Office can put you in touch with any local services you might need: such as counselling, occupational health, study support or dyslexia diagnostic services.

Your Mentor

As a student, you will be given a Mentor, who will help you make the most of your time at Medical School and will help you with your academic, professional and personal development. You will meet your Mentor throughout your academic year to discuss your progress and personal development; later in the course, they support you through the Foundation Programme application process. Your Mentors can also put you in touch with other forms of support and guidance within the School or wider University if you need it.

Your Academic Year Tutor

You will also have access to an Academic Year Tutor (AYT), who will monitor your academic progress. If you have any issues affecting your academic performance, your AYT may refer you to additional support groups or services within the School. Our Academic Tutors also support students who are at risk of under-performing or have other academic issues, exploring specific areas of difficulty and putting together a help plan.

Career support

Our Careers Service provides specialist guidance and support for our medical students, both as they study and begin professional practice. The Service has a wealth of resources for you, from the date of your registration until you graduate.
