Academy of Medical Sciences - Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers 

The scheme is targeted at early stage Clinical Lecturers and provides consumables funding for research projects. There are two funding rounds each year: one in March and one in September.

Barts Charity – ACF Scheme
(ACFs only can apply)

This is a pump-priming scheme to support researchers at an early stage in their careers. It's open to NIHR Academic Clinical Fellows at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry, and Barts Health NHS Trust. 

Applicants can apply for an award of up to £4,000 for consumables only. The scheme doesn’t cover salary, travel or training costs. 

The 2019 Barts Charity Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) consumables awards has now closed.
The 2020 round is expected to open around June 2020. Details will be published here as soon as these are available.

One-off funding opportunities 

Call for proposals for NIHR Clinical Lecturers Small Research Grant Applications 

Do you have a research idea? Do you need funding for an initial data collection to strengthen a subsequent application for more substantial funding?  If so this call for funding offers you the opportunity to obtain seed-funding for a research project in your area of research. 

What’s available?
One award of up to £10,000 to collect preliminary data to strengthen a subsequent application for more substantial funding.  

What’s the deadline?
22nd November 2019; 5pm 

How do I apply?
Please submit an electronic copy of your proposal to iatadmin@qmul.ac.uk 

Who can apply?
Clinical Lecturers currently in training on the NIHR IAT programme who have not previously received funding from the NIHR CL Small Grants award 

How do I make a proposal?
Proposal documentation should contain the following:

  1. The completed application form, template available from iatadmin@qmul.ac.uk
  2. CV with publications list (max. 2 A4 pages)
  3. A letter of support from your academic supervisor.
