Linguistics Taster Session

About this event: How does language work? At first glance, language seems to take many forms, such as the drumming languages of West Africa or the whistled language Silbo. In this talk, we'll introduce linguistics, the scientific approach to language, and we will see that all languages make use of the same building blocks, even when they seem very different. Whether you’re interested in languages, maths, psychology, sociology, English language, the sciences, and beyond, this taster session offers an opportunity to discover the diverse field of linguistics, and how examining how language works helps uncover the inner workings of the human mind!

Speakers: Dr. Coppe van Urk (Reader in Linguistics)

Date: Wednesday 22nd November - 5-6pm GMT
