Entry Requirements

Academic requirements 

To apply for the International Foundation Programme (IFP), you need a Good High School leaving certificate, a reference from a teacher, and a personal statement indicating your preferred pathway.  

Please note: You can make an application even if you are waiting for results.

English language requirements 

The English language requirements for entry to the IFP are an overall IELTS score of 6.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill. If you require a Tier 4 visa, you will need to take a Secure English Language Test (SELT).

Some IFP subjects are only open to students with higher IELTS scores: For Literature, you will need an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or above (or equivalent).

If you do not meet the minimum English language requirements, you can take the 9 week Foundations Pre-sessional Programme if you have an overall IELTS score of at least 5.5, with a minimum score of 5.0 in all elements (or equivalent).

Age requirements 

You can enrol on the IFP if you are aged 17 or over by the 1st of September before the course begins. Parents and agents of applicants who will be aged under 18 at the start of the IFP should read the guidance available here.

Applicants awarded the Diploma obviously exceed the entry requirements, assuming they also obtain the specified marks for individual subjects
