It is one of the leading scholarly journals to disseminate research into the cultures of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America, from the Middle Ages to the present day. Published six times a year and widely distributed in North America and Europe, the fields the journal covers include literature, cultural history, cultural studies, theatre studies, language and linguistics, within areas where Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan and Galician are spoken.

The journal publishes two annual special issues per year, featuring screen arts and visual arts, which can be purchased separately.
