We have strong research specialisms in

  • intercultural transfer and communication;
  • transnationalism and migration;
  • gender and sexuality;
  • the history of ideas;
  • visual culture;
  • language policy and politics;
  • modern theatre.

We welcome PhD applications across all of these areas. (Please note the Department's interests are very broad and if you have a project in an area not mentioned please get in touch and discuss with us.)

We offer a distinctive MA in Anglo-German Cultural Relations, however our language graduates are also encouraged to consider the MA in Comparative Literature.
