Melanie Engelmayr was educated at the University of Vienna, where she first pursued a BA in Japanese studies and German studies, and later graduated with a Master’s degree in German studies. Her Master thesis ‘Turning inward. Psyche und Trauma in ausgewählten Romanen Paulus Hochgatterers’ focuses mainly on the works of the contemporary Austrian writer and psychiatrist Paulus Hochgatterer and is considered a narratological analysis of the author’s construction of psyche and trauma.

Her main research interests include German/Austrian literature of the 20th century as well as contemporary Austrian literature, German as a foreign language and sociolinguistic implications on the German language.
