Profile

I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the project ‘Accent Bias in Britain’,  PI: Erez Levon, after completing my PhD thesis in the department in July 2019. I am also a Visiting Lecturer at Regents University London, where I teach courses in Digital Culture and Social Media.

My doctoral thesis, 'Beyond the Offline: Social Media and the Social Meaning of Variation in East London' (ESRC funded), uses a combination of offline and online methods to explore variable patterns of spoken language amongst adolescents in East London, examining their social media data to interpret the social meaning of that variation.

My research takes an interdisciplinary approach to analysing digital and offline communication that draws on insights from variationist sociolinguistics and digital culture studies.

Research Interests: Sociolinguistics, language variation and change, digital communication, computational sociolinguistics, youth styles, stylistic variation, appropriation and style.
