I am interested in how people may express aspects of their identity through speech, particularly focusing on phonetic realisations. My area of expertise are language, gender, and sexuality. My PhD dissertation analysed variation between members of a local women’s football team with people who were not on the team. I was particularly interested in team membership and sexuality of the participants. I also researched perceptions of female sexuality through fundamental frequency.TeachingSociolinguistics: English in Use – UG Sociolinguistic Variation and Change – UG Sex, Gender and Language – UG & PG Sociolinguistic Theory – PG Research Methods in Sociolinguistics – PGResearchResearch Interests:• Sociolinguistics • Language, gender, and sexuality • Performativity • Sociophonetics • Sport
