Robert Hellyer, Marc Barnard and Sophie Holmes-Elliott will briefly (10mins) discuss the study ‘The urge to unmerge: A case of structural change across the lifespan?’, which they will be presenting at NWAV50 next week. The study uses recordings of two podcast presenters across four years to observe a longitudinal shift in vowel realization and the conditions necessary for more structural change to take place.
