Profile

I did my BA in literature and linguistics at the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and am trained to analyse literary text through an application of linguistic theory. During my MA at the University of Malaya (UM), I was able to utilize my linguistic training in stylistics and focused on literary film adaptations. My MA dissertation attempted to put out a rigorous model of adapting literary works into film utilizing theoretical frameworks from stylistics and multimodality.

My PhD project will attempt to further improve the proposed model by incorporating Multimodal Film Analysis and will explore the use of the model as an evaluative and practical tool for the film industry. Before joining QMUL, I was a pre-university lecturer, teaching introductory courses on linguistics. I am also part of creeptheatrics, an independent group focused on the arts. I have written, directed and acted in several productions. Supervisors: Else Vieira and Mario Slugan.
