Mathias Thoenig


Professorial Fellow



Mathias Thoenig is a Professorial Fellow in the school of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London. He is also a Research Fellow in the CEPR international trade and macro programs, a Professor of Economics at University of Lausanne and an elected Council Member of the European Economic Association. He has held visiting appointments at International Monetary Fund, MIT, SciencesPo Paris, University of British Columbia and University Pompeu Fabra.

His research interests are at the intersection of political economy, development and international economics. He has worked extensively on the links between conflicts and trade. His current research agenda focuses on the causes of democratization, violence-induced migration, pacification policies and post-conflict reconciliation.
