In 2016, Monet decided to pursue an MSc Banking at the school of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University.
What made you want to take on the role of Alumni Chapter Lead? What do you hope to achieve in this role?
Since I graduated from Queen Mary, I started to arrange Alumni group/activities both online and offline. Many Alumni have successfully found their dream jobs or accomplished business matching. I hope to continue to do so to service our Chinese Alumni in order to expand their social network and share career opportunities.
Could you tell me about your current job and what it involves? What drew you to this work?
I joined the Bank of East Asia（China）limited as a management trainee and now work in Investment Banking Department as a structured finance product manager, mainly in charge of originating and distributing loan syndication. Syndication has bright prospect among banking industry in Asia-pacific area and it is one of the most attractive products of our bank which we use to serve our corporate clients.
Queen Mary is located in London which is one of the financial centres in the world, courses in Queen Mary provide students with frontier academic knowledge and increase their competitive strength.
Could you describe your career path that led you to where you are?
After my graduation, I joined my current company. The company provided me with an extraordinary opportunity to rotate among core business lines in a commercial bank, which helps me gain a wide range of knowledge about financial products and credit sense. After my rotation, I choose to be a member of IBD of our bank.
Why did you choose to study Banking? Why at Queen Mary?
Banking is one of the hottest sectors in China even in the world, and the industry offers many career opportunities. Queen Mary is located in London which is one of the financial centres in the world, courses in Queen Mary provide students with frontier academic knowledge and increase their competitive strength. Queen Mary ranks top tier university in the world and is well accepted by global employers.
What was your experience of moving to the UK for study? Were there any differences that surprised you?
Studying in the UK is not only about academic, but also give you chance to approach arts, cultures and natural scenery. Hardly could I visit so many galleries and museums outside UK.
What motivates you in life?
Family, friendship and sense of fulfilment for a career.
What are your aspirations for the future?
Better play my role as Alumni Chapter Leader and increase the influence of Queen Mary in China, seek better career development.
What were the highlights of your time at Queen Mary?
Make acquaintance with many friends in Queen Mary and travel through the UK.
