Our Masters pathways offer you the flexibility to explore the forms of writing that interest you the most:
Our MA invites you to choose from a number of distinctive pathways through the programme. If you prefer a flexible route, you can take our English Literature pathway and choose modules from across the whole range of our offerings. If you prefer to specialize, you can choose one of six period pathways on which you will take focused modules and write a dissertation in a related area.
Whichever pathway you chose, you study will combine specially-designed core modules with the opportunity to select further options from across the whole range of MA modules on offer in the Department of English.
You may also opt to take a cognate elective module offered by the Schools in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and by other Colleges of the University of London. Your chosen pathway will be named in the title of your degree.
You will benefit from studying in a large but friendly department where you will work alongside leading researchers in the field to pursue your own intellectual pathways. Whatever programme you choose, you will be introduced to research methods and resources for the advanced study of literature and will develop higher-level skills in argument, presentation, and independent research. Our programmes allow you to go on to pursue doctoral research, to gain employment in a range of cultural sectors, and to deepen your understanding of particular movements, debates, and practices.
