This module will explore the intellectual, creative and political forces that shaped South African Theatre between 1985-2010. It will examine works which display a syncretic merging of African story-telling, Aristotelian and 20th century European theatre-making techniques. Through an analysis of the Workshop Theatre of the 1980s, the physical theatre that emerged in the 1990s and pieces that emerged post-1994 , this module will explore the past and current relationship between art and politics in South Africa.
