Catriona Knox

Performer, comedian, writer and actor

Profile

Catriona is a performer, comedian, writer and actor who has worked extensively in radio, television and theatre – both creating her own work and performing in other peoples projects.

Much of her time is spent developing her critically acclaimed solo, character led comedy shows which she writes, performs, produces, promotes and funds herself.

Work

Catriona is currently working on a solo, character-led comedy show for Edinburgh 2016. Her shows are original, interactive and, technically paired back to allow the jokes and the arresting nature of live performance to emerge - no hiding behind costumes and lavish sets. Plus the latter cost too much! Her character creations have their roots in observational comedy but are often topical, experimental (she once performed a character in an entirely made up language) & satirical; no one is safe, be it Nigella Lawson or Nick Clegg. She is interested in feminism and the role of women in comedy and has written about it for the Independent, as well as blogging for the Huffington Post. She is currently developing various character driven comedy projects both for television and radio and continues to perform on the London comedy circuit.

She regularly performs her work at the Soho Theatre, London – including a sold-out run there in April of this year - as well as at festivals and arts venues across the UK. She’s a regular contributor to Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe (BBC 2) in which she plays spoof news reporter, Emily Surname. She has written and performed in two series of her own BBC Radio 4 sitcom Mission Improbable (co-written and created with sketch group The Boom Jennies, of which she was a founding member). She is set to appear in Boomers(BBC1) and a comedy pilot for BBC 2, Project X, later this year and has featured in Sun Trap (BBC 1),Not Going Out (BBC1) and Fool Britannia (ITV) and for BBC Radio 4: The Lentil Sorters, Strap In!
