Reading Room_03: Bardsley v Maeterlinck: An Apian Paradox

(5-hours duration)

This Reading Room worked with an absent Reader by using a pre-recorded reading of Maeterlinck’s book, The Life of the Bee. It created responsive ‘bee’ worlds that offered a feminine ecology/economy of doing, pleasure and female bee-ing. The space became a hive party, inhabited by two worker-performers rewriting the Maeterlinck text with bee materials, actions and a sonic apian language utilizing two record decks and a selection of bee-related vinyl. Additional DJ/BJ’s entered the hive towards the end of the 5-hour ‘reading’. At this stage the audience were also invited to join in the hive-party.
