The UK Government announced ‘Operation Warm Welcome’ on 1 September 2021 to support those who have been relocated to the UK via Operation Pitting to access the vital health, education, and support into employment they need to fully integrate into society.  

As part of this support package, a DfE-funded Warm Welcome Scholarship Scheme has been established to support those affected to access undergraduate and postgraduate university scholarships in the UK. 

Warm Welcome Scholarships will support eligible scholars to undertake full-time in-person study at UK higher education providers at the following three levels of study:

  • Undergraduate: for a maximum of three years, or four years in Scotland
  • Taught master's: for a maximum of one year 

Through the Warm Welcome Full Degree Scholarship programme, scholars will receive a quarterly stipend payment to cover accommodation and living expenses. Participating higher education providers will waive tuition and other course fees for scholars for the duration of their studies. 

Queen Mary’s commitment is as follows: 

  • Faculty of Science and Engineering to fund up to 2 scholars (1 UG, 1 PGT).  
  • Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences will fund 1 PGT scholar. 
  • Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry will fund up to 2 scholars (1 UG, 1 PGT) 

Some programmes are excluded. These are the joint programmes with Kew Gardens (SBBS) and UCL (History), the MBBS and the BDS. The DClinDent programmes are also excluded. Foundation programmes are not eligible.
