This award is available to students who are holding an offer of a place on the Water and Environmental Management MSc. cbec eco-engineering UK Ltd is a restoration specialist for the water environment. Its eco-engineering technical services span geomorphology, hydrology, hydraulics, field services and restoration design and build for the water resources sector. cbec is delighted to offer this award to support talented individuals enter into conservation-focused careers in the water and environment sector.  This award is for students who will be eligible to work in the UK water and environment sector upon graduation.

Recipients of the award are expected to undertake their dissertation research in collaboration with cbec, on a topic of mutual interest to the recipient and cbec. The dissertation supervisory team will comprise a member of the MSc teaching team and relevant specialists from cbec. Dissertation topic areas will relate to an emerging element of river restoration assessment, design, monitoring or evaluation.  They may exploit new techniques with the potential for application (e.g., passive monitoring), new arenas for river restoration (e.g., peatlands, use of ‘large wood’, ‘Stage 0’), or may judge the effectiveness and sustainability of implemented schemes. The recipient is expected to have opportunities for paid work experience with cbec during university vacation periods.

Interested applicants should submit a statement via the online application form elaborating why they should be considered. The statement should detail the applicant’s academic and professional merit, their dissertation research interests in the area of river restoration, their longer-term career goals, and how the award will help their professional development.
