The Waltham Forest Fellowship Foundation is a new bursary scheme which supports young people into higher education within the medical, biological and pharmaceutical field. The scheme has been created in recognition of the incredible work and sacrifice of individuals within the medical & pharmaceutical industry over the past year. 

For 2023/24 entry students limited scholarships will be available, subject to confirmation.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to apply for this award, you must meet the requirements outline in either Route A or Route B.

Route A

  • Students who are a Waltham Forest care leaver or have had/have a Waltham Forest social worker will automatically eligible to apply for this bursary.

Route B

You must meet all three of the following criteria:

  1. A London Borough of Waltham Forest resident for over 3 years with a combined household income of less than £45,000 (be means-tested via student finance) and able to demonstrate the need for financial assistance, and
  2. Under 25 (at time of entry to university) with no previous higher education qualification, and
  3. Studying or due to be studying at a Queen Mary University on one of the courses listed above.

You must also meet one of the following criteria:

  • Have a disability as set out in section 6 of the Equality Act 2010
  • Be a parent
  • Arrived in the UK as a refugee or asylum seeker
  • Have a household income of less than £25,000
  • Have taken a non-ordinary route to higher education eg Hold non-traditional university-entry qualifications or have been out of formal education for a significant period of time
  • Live in a qualifying postcode (please see Waltham Forest Bursary - Eligible Postcodes [PDF 410KB] for further information)
  • Be eligible for or in receipt of Free school meals.
  • Have been supported by Waltham Forest’s Young Carer’s team
