Fees and scholarships

At Queen Mary we want to encourage the best qualified students into subject areas which have been identified as essential to UK economic growth, and which are highly sought after by employers.

Tuition fees

Undergraduate degree students are charged tuition fees each year by Queen Mary University of London. The rate you will be charged depends on whether you are assessed as a Home or an EU/Overseas student. Home students will not have to pay your fees while studying – the government will lend eligible students the money, which you will have to start paying back once you have left university and are earning at least £25,000.

Visit the Queen Mary website for more information on undergraduate fees and funding.

Help and advice

Anyone who has applied to Queen Mary can contact our Advice and Counseling Service for specialist financial and welfare advice. Hear from our students in the video below on how best to manage your finances at university.

Scholarships for UK and EU students

  • Science and Engineering Excellence Scholarships

Queen Mary Science and Engineering Excellence Scholarships are worth £3,000 a year for each year of study, paid directly to you – a total of up to £9,000 over a three-year course (or £12,000 for MSci students).

For 2019 entry, the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences will offer Excellence Scholarships for all of courses, to all students who accept Queen Mary as their firm choice gain A*AA or above (or equivalent).

There is no need to apply separately for the Excellence Scholarships. Your application through UCAS automatically enters you into consideration for an award and recipients will be notified by email of their award.

For more information on eligibility visit the Science and Engineering Excellence Scholarships page.

Scholarships for international students

  • International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards

This award was designed to reward academic excellence and help attract the brightest and best students from across the world.

This scholarship is worth £3,000 and will be deducted directly from your first year tuition fees. The award will be given to international students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement.

There is no need to complete a separate application form to be considered for an International Science and Engineering Excellence Award. You will be considered for an award on the basis of the information you provide in your UCAS or online application to Queen Mary.

The scholarship applies to all courses.

For more information on eligible visit the International Science and Engineering Excellence Awards page.

Field trip costs

Students on our Biology BSc and Zoology BSc degrees will have optional and compulsory fieldwork modules. Compulsory fieldwork will not cost you anything extra. For optional overseas fieldwork, you will need to cover the cost of your flight and contribute towards accommodation and food. Full and partial bursaries are available. Destinations can vary year-on-year, are subject to availability, and depend on the modules you choose.
