Profile

Project title: Determinants of Information Selection During Vision

Summary: In order to generate an understanding of the world, we must move our eyes to provide our high-resolution fovea with detailed, visual information. Saliency accounts suggest that the guidance of these eye movements is driven by visual saliency i.e. how much an area “stands out” from its surroundings. Alternatively, cognitive guidance theories suggest that eye movements are guided towards areas that are meaningful in terms of being semantically informative or cognitively relevant to the given situation. The aim of this project is to develop tools, which consider the relational structures in scenes, to predict observers’ eye movements under various task conditions.
