Project title: Understanding the compartmentalization of glycolysis in metabolic reprogramming
Summary: Aging is associated with the loss of mitochondrial function suggesting the switch to a predominantly glycolytic lifestyle. How such an upregulation of the flux through glycolysis might occur is poorly understood. The aim of this project is to integrate genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics and metabolomics to identify the mechanisms underlying this phenomenon and ivestigate its impact on cellular physiology. We will use yeast species with distinct approaches to aging and metabolism as a composite model to address these questions.
