Project title: Bioinformatics at the Epigenetic-Proteomics Interface

Summary: Retrotransposable elements are found throughout the human genome and expression of some known retroelements have been linked to diseases such as cancer, schizophrenia and autoimmune disease.  The questions to be studied at in depth are: How extensive is retroelement expression across several tissues and diseases?  What relative expression of various retrolements variants are present? And what role does post-translational modifications play in these?  A proteomics-based approach will be used to try and tackle these questions in order to devise and implement computational methods to analyse existing data (from public databases) and perhaps also use newly collected proteomic mass spectrometry data from the lab.
