Project title: Bilinguals’ experience and understanding of affective meaning in the first and second language

Summary: My research interest is the relationship between language, music and emotion.

The focus of my PhD is on the early processing of emotional meaning in bilinguals’ first and second language and how linguistic meaning does relate to non-linguistic emotional meaning like affect conveyed by music. The main question addressed in this project is if the emotional force of a language acquired in early childhood (L1) differs from the emotional experience of languages acquired later in life (L2). This is investigated on the behavioural as well as on the neurophysiological level (ERPs) by comparing how the emotional force of the bilinguals’ L1 and L2 interferes with the emotional content of music.
