Project title: Anaerobic ammonium oxidation in oxic riverbeds
Summary: Anaerobic ammonium oxidation (Anammox) process is critically important in the overall nitrogen cycle. Anammox is an obligate anaerobic metabolism, it is oxygen sensitive. However, former experimental results from our laboratory have shown that anammox occurred in some oxic and permeable riverbeds, but little is known about the mechanism of this process. The main aim of this project is to develop the understanding of the role of anammox in the removal of fixed N in oxic riverbeds.
