- Functions of sighs: Sighs are single deep breaths with important psychological functions. We study how sighs function as stress and emotion regulation mechanisms by facilitating relief. We also explore how sighs improve cognitive performance.
- Breathing and relaxation: We study the essential mechanisms of popular breathing interventions in increasing relaxation and reducing stress, anxiety and symptoms.
- Respiratory interoception: Interoception is the perception of one’s internal bodily state, which has been shown to be crucial in emotion regulation and symptom management. We are developing new measures to assess respiratory interoceptive accuracy and awareness.
