Project title: Impact of rainforest fragmentation on predator-prey interactions: a molecular ecological approach

Summary: I study the impacts of habitat fragmentation on the diet of insectivorous bats at the S.A.F.E project in Sabah, Borneo. The habitat I am sampling is over a gradient of fragmentation, with the disturbance occurring over an extended period of time. Through next generation sequencing of barcoding regions of DNA in the bats’ faeces I am constructing food webs looking at the impact of the level of fragmentation and time-lags since the fragmentation event on the diet of the bats, and the overall species composition of the arthropod communities in the area.
