Project title: The cognitive neuroscience of creative innovation: using EEG, brain stimulation and computational modelling to understand creativity in music

Summary: The objective of my PhD is to study how the brain processes novelty in music and how that affects cultural transmission. When the brain is presented with musical novelty, this can be perceived as a positive or negative change (innovation or error). These perceptions are then employed in the transmission of music through generations. I am interested in musical learning, perception, and transmission and will use EEG, brain stimulation, and computational modeling to study these questions.
