School of Biological and Chemical Sciences celebrates successes in National Student Survey

Student satisfaction in biology and zoology teaching in QMUL’s School of Biological and Chemical Sciences has increased by 5% in a year, according to the latest National Student Survey (NSS). In addition, molecular biology, biophysics and biochemistry teaching was ranked fourth in London.

The National Student Survey is an annual survey of student perceptions of things like teaching, assessment, resources and personal development.

Teaching in the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences is rated highly by students: 100% thought their course was intellectually stimulating (Zoology) and 90% of students agreed staff are good at explaining things (Chemistry, Biology).  96% of students agreed they have been able to contact staff when they need to (Genetics).

“The improvement in these areas of student satisfaction is very welcome,” said Professor Matthew Evans, Head of the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences. He continued, “We always appreciate the student feedback we get from the NSS and use it to improve the way we work.”

Overall satisfaction at QMUL is at 88 per cent, up from 86 per cent in 2014. The results of the 2015 National Student Survey mean that QMUL is now in the top ten in the Russell Group and joint first in London for student satisfaction.
