Newly discovered molecule for resetting 'body clocks'

Published:

Researchers from School of Biological and Chemical Sciences at Queen Mary, University of London  lead by Professor Ralf Stanewsky have looked at the impact of light on the body clocks of fruit flies, identifying a molecule, QUASIMODO (QSM), which was intrinsically involved in relaying light-information to the flies' inner clocks. The molecule is essential to getting the flies’ body clocks back in sync. Professor Stanewsky had previously isolated a specialized circadian photoreceptor named CRYPTOCHROME (CRY) which is active directly within the clock neurons of flies' brains.

This story has been reported in Science Daily.
